How we price surplus fiber optic cable

Every reel is priced on its own, from the tag photos: count, series, part number, footage, date code and condition. Ribbon, hybrid and 864 ct are priced off the spec on the tag like everything else. You get one firm offer in writing within 24 business hours, and the number doesn’t change at pickup.

Closures, pedestals, vaults and hardware price off the tag and the part number rather than the foot. Send photos. FOSC-450s and dome closures move fast — those are the last thing that should go in a scrap bin.

What pushes the offer up

  • Long continuous footage on one reel — 10,000 ft beats four short ends adding to the same number
  • Tags on, legible, with a readable date code
  • Name-brand series — Corning ALTOS, CommScope, Prysmian
  • Factory reels, jacket clean, both ends sealed, flanges intact
  • Several reels going out on one truck — the freight spreads across the lot
  • High count. The per-foot number climbs faster than the count does

What pulls it down

  • Partial reels with unknown footage — a blind reel prices cautiously
  • Tags gone and jacket printing worn off
  • Old date codes
  • One small reel a long way from any lane we run
  • Cut ends, kinked cable, a flange broken off, water sitting in an open end

What we buy

What we rarely buy: small quantities of patch cords and pigtails, indoor plenum short ends, and anything crushed, burned or water-logged. Send the photo anyway — worst case we tell you it is scrap and you have spent two minutes finding out.

How the offer gets made

  1. You send tag photos. The reel tag carries the count, series, part number, footage and date code — everything the price comes from. WhatsApp is fastest. No tag, photograph the flange and the jacket printing.
  2. We read the tags and price the lot. Series, date code, footage, condition, and where the material sits. One number for the whole lot, in writing, within 24 business hours.
  3. We book and pay the freight. Carrier, insurance, paperwork, cost. You get the certificate of insurance and the pickup window before the truck is dispatched. Your side is loading it.
  4. The material moves once. Out of your yard to the end user, no warehouse stop. Terms, timing and settlement in writing before anything is picked up.

Common questions

How much is my surplus fiber optic cable worth?
The tag sets it. Count, series, part number, footage, date code and condition all move the number, and continuous footage on one reel prices better than the same length in short ends. Send the tag photos and you get one firm offer in writing within 24 business hours.
Is there a minimum quantity?
No hard minimum, but the freight math works from roughly $1,000 of material up — a couple of reels, or one high-count reel. Below that, message us anyway. If your ZIP sits on a lane we already run, we piggyback the load.
Do you buy partial reels?
Yes, when the remaining footage is known or readable. The jacket is printed with sequential footage marks every few feet — the mark at one end minus the mark at the other is your footage. Photograph both ends and we do the math.
How does payment work?
We are a trading desk, not a warehouse. We place the material and settle with you out of the sale, so payment follows placement rather than pickup, and the expected timeline is in writing before anything moves. We do not pay cash at the truck. If you need money on the spot, say so at the start and we will tell you straight whether this is the right desk for that load.
